Undergraduate Student – Emily Hu

Emily is a class of 2021 chemistry student at Rutgers University. Before joining the Zhang group, she worked on geochemistry and materials science projects involving carbon-14 dating of North Atlantic deep-sea sediment and elemental analysis of 18th century New Jersey potsherds. After taking organic chemistry during her sophomore year, she became interested in organic synthesis and plans on pursuing a PhD in organic chemistry after graduation. Her current research interests focus on synthesizing functionalized EMFs through click chemistry for applications in materials and/or drug delivery. Outside of research, she is the webmaster for the Rutgers Chemistry Society and assistant membership educator for Alpha Omega Epsilon sorority. She enjoys visiting art museums, reading, and playing piano in her free time.
